McDonald’s Holdings Co (Japan) will introduce a new pricing policy, abandoning the current uniform pricing system possibly within this month by charging more in urban areas and less in rural districts, company officials said Tuesday.
The nation’s largest hamburger chain plans to hike prices by 3-5% in Tokyo, Osaka and other large cities where it faces higher personnel costs and shop rental fees, the officials said. Instead, it will cut prices by 2-3% at its outlets in rural areas. McDonald’s will peg its strategic 100-yen burger at the current level across Japan.
