US fast-food giant Burger King opened its first restaurant in 6 years in Japan today in the shopping and entertainment district of Tokyo’s Shinjuku.
It exited the Japanese market in 2001 after a price war with arch-rival McDonald’s but has been encouraged to give it another try now that consumers are spending more and Western food is becoming more popular.
The US chain said it plans to open several more restaurants in Tokyo in the coming months and is eyeing 50 outlets in the area within the next 3 years under a franchise with confectioner Lotte Co. and consulting firm Revamp Corp.
