Global book seller Borders is on track to offload its Australian and New Zealand stores as the US company scales down its international operations.

Accounting and advisory firm KPMG is preparing an information memorandum for potential customers, which is set to be released in July.

One of the options for the trans-Tasman management of Borders is to sell licences to use the Borders brand.

Executive director at KPMG Corporate Finance Luke Lawrentschuk said the brand did not come on the market often and had already attracted domestic and overseas interest.

“When they do, they attract a lot of interest, which we have had both here in Australia and overseas, with trade buyers and private equity buyers,” Mr Lawrentschuk said.

Borders Group chief executive George Jones said the Australian and New Zealand stores were successful.

“We believe these are excellent businesses with talented management and strong prospects for growth.”

On March 22 the company announced a review of its non-US operations and signalled a possible sale of its stores in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
