He’s not Jack Black, who starred in the 2003 hit movie ‘School of Rock,’ but Mike Morpurgo (photo) spends his days teaching the headbangers of tomorrow. As the owner of the Pennington franchise location of The Paul Green School of Rock and Roll Music, Morpurgo turns his experience as an indie rocker into lessons for young guitar players, drummers and vocalists.

The chain of schools, which started in Philadelphia in 1998, has no connection to the popular screen comedy about prep-school kids learning to rock out, but Morpurgo says founder Paul Green embraced the name recognition that came with the movie’s success.

‘That movie was the greatest free marketing tool we ever had,’ says Morpurgo. ‘If that’s what brought you here, that’s wonderful.’

The Paul Green School of Rock and Roll Music teaches kids between 7 and 18 how to jam in the style of rock legends such as Van Halen, Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC. Morpurgo, a longtime friend of Green’s from the Philadelphia music scene, first got involved with the school as an instructor. Then, after Green had opened nine locations, Morpurgo became the school’s initial franchisee in 2005. Continue reading.
