The Capital Times:

Two Madison Culver’s restaurants have added technology enabling hearing-impaired people to use the drive-thru lane.

The ‘OrderAssist’ system was purchased by franchisee Susan Bulgrin for the Culver’s she owns at 2102 W. Beltline Hwy. and the Culver’s she co-owns at 4401 Cottage Grove Road.

OrderAssist includes a sign that is placed next to the drive-thru menu sign instructing those who are deaf or have other communication barriers to review the menu, ring the bell that is part of the sign, and then proceed to the drive-thru window.

The bell tells Culver’s workers to have a printed menu ready to give to the customer when they arrive at the window. The customer then fills out the menu and hands it back, and the order is processed.

The OrderAssist program also is available inside the restaurant at the counter.

‘We’re trying to provide the best customer service to every person who walks in the door,’ Bulgrin said. ‘And we really need to provide it to all members of the community, whether they’re hearing impaired or whatever it might be.’
