When you ‘gotta eat,’ you don’t wanna drive to who knows where for a quick burger. Right around the corner tends to be good.
That, evidently, is a prevailing opinion in Belleview.
Thanks to all the cards and letters pouring into Checkers‘ corporate headquarters in Tampa since the end of last year, the Checkers unit at 5497 SE Abshier Blvd. gets a new lease on life this summer.
So does the one at 11193 N. Williams St. in Dunnellon.
Elizabeth Sheridan, a spokeswoman for the chain, confirms the 2 are reopening in coming months under the watchful eye of new franchisee, Joseph Kucej (pronounced: coo-chee).
Kucej, who lives in Dunnellon, says fast food is in his blood.
‘I’ve been involved in a lot of restaurants in the past, going back to the old Arthur Treachers,’ he says. ‘Fast food, once it gets into you, you kind of like it.’
I’m figuring here he’s referring to the business of fast food. But one never really knows. Anyway, both units were closed by corporate officials at the end of 2006…
