One local couple recently decided to expand their existing lawn care business by teaming up with a national company with franchises around the country.
Lane and Janine Roath joined the national commercial landscape management company U.S. Lawns after first learning about the franchise opportunity at a lawn and landscape expo in St. Louis 7 years ago. It wasn’t until recently, however, that the couple decided to seek a franchise with the Orlando, Fla.-based company.
After more than a decade working in manufacturing, Lane Roath started R&R Lawn Service out of his south Oklahoma City home in recent years.
‘I started kind of like everybody else,’ Lane Roath said. ‘I got a truck, a trailer and one mower and a weed eater and I was in business.’
The Roaths currently have a staff of about 6, and recently purchased an acre of land in Moore to build a headquarters within the next year. They said as the business grows they will hire more staff to meet the demand.
Paul Wolbert, vice president of U.S. Lawns, said when the company considers a new franchise it looks at several aspects before asking a new group to join their team.
U.S. Lawns, which started in 1986, has 173 offices in 30 states. This is its first Oklahoma franchise.
