Shops ‘Exploiting’ Their Migrant Workers

APPALLING exploitation of foreign workers by a pizza franchise is exposed by the Mirror today.

Young East Europeans are lured here with the promise of decent wages - then find “deductions” leave them working for nothing and thousands of pounds in debt.

They are run by multi-millionaire Surinder Kandola, who lives in a £4million mansion in Surrey.

He owns a string of companies including Global Pizzas and Sopranos Pizza, which control over 30 outlets.

Before they even start work, migrants are charged:

£500 for a beaten-up old car to deliver pizzas.

Another £700 to insure their vehicles,

£100 a fortnight for shabby tied bedsits, often overcrowded and sometimes with only sponge mattresses for beds.

Then they spend months paying off the car and insurance deductions while running up accommodation bills.

It leaves them receiving “minus” pay slips and having to borrow from their pizza parlour manager for food, meaning more deductions. Before coming here they have already paid a local fixer £180 for “an introduction”.

We spoke to one employee who has worked since March but has not received a single penny because he has been paying off the debts.
