Mattress Firm Inc. has agreed to terms with a new franchisee, marking the retailer’s entrance into the Alabama market.Blue Ocean Waters LLC recently opened its first Mattress Firm location in Alabaster, a suburb of Birmingham, Ala.
The company has plans to open three additional locations in the Birmingham area before the end of 2007.
Mike Shaw, Blue Ocean Waters president, previously served as Mattress Firm’s director of marketing and advertising for five years. He left in 2006, but remained involved on a consulting basis.
Prior to his time in the corporate office, Shaw was a Mattress Firm franchisee in Hartford, Conn., operating seven stores throughout that region.
