Wendy’s Workers Waiting For Wages

The employees of 13 Wendy’s shut down Friday without warning by the franchise owner have consulted lawyers, the state Attorney General’s office, and the state’s unemployment insurance system for help.

The 13 Wendy’s restaurants, from Palmer to Pittsfield and Springfield to Greenfield, were closed abruptly Friday. Employees say they were not warned of the impending closings, and did not receive paychecks as expected that day.

Wendy’s International has said most stores average between 20 and 30 employees, for a total of about 250 people affected at the 13 Western Massachusetts stores.

Raquel Rivera, 18, who worked as a shift manager at the Wendy’s on St. James Avenue in Springfield, said today “we’re owed a lot of money for last week’s paychecks and this week’s paycheck.”

Last Friday, workers would have received a check for the previous week’s work while their paycheck for last week’s work was due Friday.
