Pizza Fusion, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based franchise that claims to be the country’s first organic pizza chain, has established its first franchisee in the Pittsburgh area.

Wende Goncz, a anesthesiologist who lives in Pine Township, signed on with the franchise last month. She expects to have a lease in place for the region’s first Pizza Fusion location slated for Pine by the end of the week.

Goncz, who will continue in her day job with UPMC Passavant, hopes to open three or four Pizza Fusion locations in the Pittsburgh area. She will also serve as an area developer for Pizza Fusion, working to attract other Pittsburgh franchisees to open the chain here.

She said she was drawn to the company’s focus on healthy and organic food.
