In franchise agreements, there are typically rules that forbid the use of brand trademarks and other materials after the agreement has been terminated, and tracking those down on the Internet can be quite difficult.

‘Internet violations on a former franchisee’s Web site are analytically-similar to old-fashioned signage violations, as are violations on third-party Web sites where the former franchisee signed up, and perhaps paid a fee to be listed,’ write law firm Wiggin and Dana’s Bethany Appleby and Frank Duffin in Franchising World magazine.
