The Wendy’s restaurant in Northampton was auctioned off today for $1 million to a mystery buyer, while Wendy’s International purchased the closed store in Greenfield for $575,000.
The 2 auctions today were the last of 5 conducted over 2 days by Aaron Posnik & Co. auctioneers by order of Capmark Finance, the company that lent former Wendy’s franchisee Robert T. Burda $6.4 million to buy the 5 stores in 1998.
The finance company has charged that Burda, of Dublin, Ohio, still owes $4.6 million and had not made a payment since April 1, according to a lawsuit filed by Capmark in U.S. District Court in Springfield.
Burda abruptly closed 13 Wendy’s restaurants on July 20, throwing between 350 and 400 employees out of work without any warning.
