THE most promising overseas market for Australian franchisers is not China or the US but India, according to speakers at a franchising conference in Melbourne.
Austrade senior export adviser Cheryl Scott told delegates on the first day of a four-day conference of the Franchise Council of Australia that the rapid economic growth of China and India made them obvious targets for Australian businesses, but India was the better prospect because of its political and legal climate.“There’s not a great acceptance there (in China) or understanding of the world business format franchising relationship, they’re in a chain-store sort of environment,” she said.
