News:
AUSTRALIA’S franchise lobby group Franchise Council of Australia has given franchisees one voice on its 11-member board, but will have to wait another 12 months to vote.
Franchisees will be able to air their issues at the new Franchisee Forum, as was unveiled by FCA chairman John O’Brien at this month’s national conference.
The chairman of the forum, Gloria Jean’s Coffee franchisee Tony Melhelm, will attend FCA board meetings but cannot vote until the arrangement is formalised at the next general meeting in 12 months’ time.
While this leaves Australia’s 56,200 franchisees without a formal voice on the lobby group’s board, Mr O’Brien said franchisee interests were adequately represented by franchisor management and other advisers already appointed to the board.
“There are about seven brands represented and the rest are filled with lawyers or consultants or educators,” he said.
“Whether it is franchisors or franchisees, they represent the interests of the system.
