A Seattle-based nutritional smoothie company is targeting Jacksonville and other Florida cities as part of its national expansion campaign.
Emerald City Smoothie intends to open up to 10 franchises in Jacksonville. It also plans to open multiple locations in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Miami, West Palm Beach and Orlando over the next five years as part of its plan to open 250 stores by 2010.
In the two years since Executive Vice President Jim Baskett and other investors bought the company the number of stores has grown from 23 to about 50 in Washington, Arizona, Utah, Idaho and California. Baskett expects that growth to continue as Americans become more health-conscious.
“There are a lot of folks who are caring a lot more about what they’re putting in their bodies,” he said.
