The owner of 15 Subway shops is looking to the world of Tex-Mex for his newest venture.
Lawrence Jasenski Jr., vice president and chief operating officer of Draper Development LLC in Schenectady, has become the upstate New York master developer for Taco Del Mar, a Seattle-based chain of “fast casual” restaurants with no presence in the Northeast.
As master developer, Jasenski has been granted the right to recruit franchisees in upstate New York and parts of Vermont, New Hampshire and the Berkshires. Jasenski has paid about $250,000 for this right, and in exchange he gets half of the franchise fee and 3 percent of royalties, according to the company.
Jasenski said the market for new Subway restaurants was starting to get saturated. As master developer for Taco Del Mar, he will recruit potential restaurant owners, help to find good locations, make sure the shops are operating efficiently and help with marketing.
