At the apex of a very small group of Montreal lawyers specializing in franchising is Lapointe Rosenstein LLP’s Alex Konigsberg, who says he may have talked more companies out of exporting their brand to other countries than counseling them how to do it.
‘(Franchising) is an expensive proposition, it requires a lot of financial and human resources, and you have got to make sure you have a concept that can travel,’ said Konigsberg, who has helped carve a lucrative niche for the firm by negotiating franchising agreements in more than 35 countries for both Canadian and U.S. companies.
