Minor Food Group Plc, the operator of Dairy Queen, Burger King and The Pizza Company, plans to spend one billion baht to expand to a new quick-service restaurant and add more Dairy Queen ice-cream outlets over the next five years.
About 450 million baht would be spent to open 30 new ”DQ Grill & Chill” quick-service restaurant outlets, and another 100 million baht would be used to add 50 Dairy Queen ice-cream outlets. The rest would go to other businesses.Charles Mooty, president and chief executive of International Dairy Queen Inc (IDQ), one of the world’s largest producers of frozen desserts and fast food, said during his visit to Thailand yesterday that Minor Food group was the first franchisee in Asia to introduce the ”DQ Grill & Chill” quick-service restaurant.
Currently, about 300 DQ Grill & Chill restaurants operate in the US.
The first store will open in the first quarter of next year.
”Thailand is the first country for DQ Grill & Chill because it is an extremely significant market for the Dairy Queen brand in terms of performance and store numbers. We can have 200 locations within 11 years to capture more than 200 million customers. This rate of growth by one franchisee is unheard of in the industry,” Mr Mooty said.
