Brinker International Inc. has entered into a joint venture with a Mexican-based restaurant company to dramatically increase the number of Chili’s Grill & Bar restaurants in Mexico, as well as to introduce Maggiano’s Little Italy outlets there.
Under the agreement, announced Monday, Mexico City-based CMR and Dallas-based Brinker will jointly contribute to the new company – Las Nuevas Delicias Gastronomicas. The new venture, roughly translated “The New Culinary Delights,” will develop at least 50 restaurants over the next four years.
Brinker already has 49 Chili’s in Mexico, with a 50th scheduled to open this month.
CMR, a Chili’s franchisee for more than 10 years, currently operates 24 Chili’s restaurants in Mexico. The agreement converts CMR, one of the largest restaurant operators in Mexico, from franchisee to partner.
Earlier this year, CMR began developing five new Chili’s restaurants in Mexico, including one in Chihuahua that opened recently. The remaining four are set to open later this year.
