Springdale Morning News:

Commercial development in Rogers has slowed during the past year, but it is still going and at a brisk pace, according to Derrel Smith, Rogers senior planner.

‘We’re still seeing a lot of interest from people,’ said Smith. ‘It’s not quite as bad as we’ve been led to believe, at least not in Rogers.’

The agenda for Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting attests to that.

Midwest S and S LLC is coming before the commission with a large-scale development plan for a Steak & Shake at the northeast corner of 46th Street and New Hope Road.

The goal is to have the restaurant open by early- to mid-spring, said Whitley Dunn of Management Reality. Dunn is not the owner, but is assisting the franchisee with the development.

Midwest already opened a Steak & Shake in Fayetteville, which is doing well, Dunn said. So well, the franchisee wanted to open another one and chose Rogers.

Dunn said a Springdale location is a future possibility.

Arkansas Chops LLC, the franchisee behind the recently opened Ruth’s Chris Steak House, is on the agenda for a conditional-use permit to operate a private club. A permit is required if an establishment is serving liquor in Rogers. Read on.
