The 2 Navy men own the franchise to 1-800-GOT-JUNK in western Jacksonville.

Someday, Jeff Drawe and Mike Stoll will run a luxury yacht, catering to wealthy passengers with onboard massages and gourmet meals.

For now, the 2 friends will be supplementing their U.S. Navy salaries with Jacksonville’s second franchise of 1-800-GOT-JUNK? The business picks up nearly any nonhazardous residential or commercial garbage and charges a minimum of $98 or up to $478 for a full truck load, according to its parent company’s Web site.

Drawe and Stoll got the franchise rights for western Jacksonville for $90,000 - a $12,000 discount because the Canadian-based parent company participates in the Veterans Transition Franchise Initiative, or VetTran.

The federally-sponsored program is run by the International Franchise Association, which has 265 of its 1,300 member companies taking part in the effort to help veterans more easily transition into civilian life.

‘Veterans are desirable franchise owners because they’re already trained to work within systems, which is at the heart of franchising,’ said Terry Hill, association spokesman.

Companies decide individually how to assist veterans with start-up costs and whether new business owners can be on active duty.
