
For some, having a morning cup of coffee is a way of life. For the women of Scooter’s Coffeehouse, making that cup of coffee has become a livelihood.
Amy Baker, her mother, Debbie Siems, and Siems’ sister, Carol Coffey, recently opened their second Scooter’s franchise in Wichita.
The first - which opened on North Ridge Road in April - was the result of a year’s worth of stops and starts, all stemming from one unexpected evening in 2005.
At the time, Baker was employed by Scooter’s as an area developer when she convinced her mother and aunt to attend a seminar on the franchise.
Although the three admitted they had no intention of becoming franchisees, by the end of the evening, Coffey and Siems were sold. ‘We said, ‘Let’s give it go,” said Coffey, who along with Siems, was already enjoying retirement.
After more than a year searching for a location, the women finally found a spot where they could build one of the company’s drive-through kiosks. Continue reading.
