From Scottsdale-based Peter Piper Inc.’s perspective, Warren Kingsbury makes the perfect person to help the pizza chain expand into Southern California.
Kingsbury built and grew five Dairy Queen stores in the southeast Valley, so he knows what it’s really like to be a restaurant franchisee.
He has spent the past few years in commercial real estate, so he knows the importance of finding the right location for a business.
And then there was the emotional, heartstrings factor.
Kingsbury’s grandson Hunter misses their family trips to Peter Piper Pizza.
“It was an innocent request: ‘Hunter, I’ll take you anywhere you want to go for your birthday. Where do you want to go?’ ” recalled Kingsbury, who splits his time between Chandler and his grandchildren’s new home in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
“Peter Piper Pizza was the answer,” he said. “There are no Peter Piper Pizzas in San Bernardino or Riverside counties. There’s none nearby, and we had to pick a second choice.
