New Owners Promise to Revitalize Brand.
Cookies by Design, Inc., franchisor of the Cookies by Design concept, announced the sale of its assets to Crumb Corps LLC effective December 7, 2007.
Cookies by Design was founded in 1983 by Gwen Willhite Gilliam, and was first franchised in 1987. Ms. Gilliam stated that, ‘After almost 25 years, I felt the time had come for me to move on. I began searching for the right buyer - someone who appreciated the history we have built, understood the franchising concept and, most importantly, possessed what is needed to move this brand forward.’
Jon Rice, president and CEO of the newly formed parent company of the Cookies by Design concept, Crumb Corps LLC, became acquainted with Cookies by Design when he joined the company in March 2007 to head the marketing department. Mr. Rice stated that, ‘25 years ago when Gwen made her first cookie bouquet, she discovered a secret about gift giving: people want to make a personal and creative expression about themselves to another. That secret is still the key to what makes Cookies by Design an exciting business. Every day our customers seek to express their sentiments and affections in a unique and fun way.’
