A FORMER bakery owner has been cleared of blackmailing the head of Banjos Corporation.
A jury took only an hour to acquit Martin James Kelly, 39, of Blackmans Bay.
The Crown alleged that Mr Kelly had blackmailed David Joseph Dilger on March 2 last year.
Mr Kelly was accused of threatening to get the Australian Federal Police to press charges against Banjos employees if he was not paid $1.6 million.
The Crown claimed that Mr Kelly made the threat when he alleged Banjos had illegally accessed his phone records while he owned the Kingston franchise.
Mr Kelly had told police in a recorded interview he had discussed legal proceedings with Mr Dilger.
But he said it was “garbage” that he would get the AFP to press charges.
