According to the International Franchise Association, the franchising sector of the U.S. economy expanded by more than 18% between 2001 and 2005.
During that time, the franchise sector added 140,000 new businesses and 1.2 million new employees, according to the Washington, D.C.-based association’s recently released economic impact study. The study suggests that the direct economic output of franchises grew by more than 40% to $880 billion in 2005.
