Franchising Code Changes ‘Weak’

RECENT changes to the Franchising Code of Australia have been labelled “weak and inadequate” by state MP Tony Piccolo.

The Labor member for Light said the changes, which came into effect on March 1, will do very little to save some franchisees from personal and financial ruin.

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairman Graeme Samuel said the changes would help people understand what they were committing to before buying a franchise.

“In a nutshell, the changes are designed to improve transparency and mean franchisors will be required to provide a greater level of information to their franchisees,” he said.
