With its chief executive ailing, the Hillsboro quick-slice chain Pizza Schmizza has opted to sell itself to Salem take-and-bake specialists Figaro’s Italian Pizza.
Pizza Schmizza CEO Doug Wetter, also a major shareholder, is fighting brain cancer and unable to run the business on a day-to-day basis. Company Vice President Rick Glenn said Wetter’s condition prompted Pizza Schmizza to begin talking with Figaro’s last month and to conclude the deal Friday.
The companies did not disclose terms of the sale.
