American pizza giant Papa John’s will open 57 new restaurants across Canada as part of a world-wide expansion, and at least 20 of those will be located in the Maritimes, the Louisville, KY. based chain confirmed yesterday.

Whether the chain will be looking to grab a slice of Metro Moncton’s massive pizza pie remains to be seen, however, as a company spokesman said they’ll wait for their franchisee for the Atlantic provinces to announce where they plan to set up shop.

The firm has awarded rights to the entire Atlantic region to one franchisee, PJ Atlantic Franchising Ltd., in order to speed growth, the company said in a news release.

‘Canada is a key focus area for our international expansion, and these multi-unit franchise operations will help us further establish a strong foothold in that country,’ David Flanery, Papa John’s chief financial officer and managing director, international, said in a statement.

‘There’s a growing demand for better pizza in Canada, and we, along with our franchisees, are eager to continue meeting that demand by delivering our award-winning pizza.’

Papa John’s boasts more than 3,200 restaurants, but only 450 of those are outside the U.S., in 28 different countries.
