In a churned world once dominated by classic vanilla (boring) and rich chocolate (snooze), we’ve turned our sweet-toothed sights to the flavor that has our taste buds soaring and our minds reeling.
We’re talking about cake batter ice cream. Strange as it may seem, cake batter ice cream is downright yummy. And more and more brands are joining the melt-in-your-waffle-cone mix. To mark its 30th anniversary this year, Ben & Jerry’s launched its own cake batter flavor; this followed Blue Bell’s lead which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year by introducing its Anniversary Cake flavor.
For those looking to thank someone for the creation of cake batter ice cream, you’ll want to tip your cone to the folks at Cold Stone Creamery. In 2003, they were the first to introduce the flavor after the idea was conceived by a franchisee in Georgia. Since then, the flavor has gone on to ‘easily’ become one of the top three flavors at Cold Stone, says Anne Christenson, a spokesperson for the creamery. More.
