The couple has launched Pennsylvania’s first JW Tumbles franchise, a children’s gym where boys and girls as young as 4 months and as old as 8 years can get a head start on fitness.

‘A lot of women come in and they don’t really enjoy exercise,’ said Julie Brunner of Curves. ‘But if you start them young enough, it can help them when they get older.’

Her husband said their JW Tumbles location on Yardley’s South Main Street, which opened this month, gives them a chance to use their experience in fitness and exercise to help local kids ward off obesity.

‘It’s a case of good habits formed early,’ he said.

A study released in a 2006 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association estimated that 17% of children and adolescents between the ages of 2 and 19 are overweight. That’s about 12.5 million people. More.
