Finding a franchisee to open a quick-service Japanese restaurant in Broome County is taking longer than expected, according to a representative of Made in Japan Teriyaki Experience.
Last June, Andy Klie of Clear Creek Development in Tonawanda said he was seeking entrepreneurs to open about three area Made in Japan locations by the end of last year as part of an aggressive expansion plan for the United States.
“We just haven’t really found a qualified candidate at this point,” Klie said. “We’ve had some inquiries, just no one’s really met our criteria.”
To open a single unit, a potential franchisee must have at least $75,000 in liquid assets, $250,000 in net worth and some business acumen, Klie said.
“We’re still actively looking for a franchise owner” for Broome County, he said. The company’s goal remains opening three local restaurants.
