Robeks Franchisee Promises Healthier Version Of Fast Food

When Jerry Luce decided he wanted to be a franchisee of Robeks — a health food chain that began in 1996 in California — it was actually a decision about life rather than money, he said.

As he prepares to open his first store in Central Ohio, in Upper Arlington at 3219 Tremont Road next to the Kingsdale Shopping Center, it’s pretty clear the decision paid off. The outlet will be his fourth of a planned five stores in 25 months.

“I’d spent my entire career in marketing and advertising,” said Luce.

“One day I came home and my twin boys were 1-year-olds and they didn’t recognize me … I said I wasn’t going to be that kind of father.”

So Luce and his father-in-law, Richard Aufdenkampe, who was in sales at the time, sat down and devised a plan to get out of business by going into business for themselves.
