Kirk Hindoien, 42, followed his father’s footsteps into a military career.
Now the training and experience he gained for 24 years of service in the Montana Air National Guard are helping him in his new career as an entrepreneur.
Hindoien and his wife, Billie Jo, are the new owners of the Black Diamond Bar and Supper Club.
They decided to buy the Belt business after dining there last December.
‘We walked out and saw a board on the front of the restaurant that said it was for sale,’ Hindoien said. ‘2 weeks later we decided to try to buy it.’
His first stop was the Small Business Development Center, located at the Great Falls Development Authority. There they received a template for a business plan, along with information from the center’s director, Rebecca Engum.
‘They are star pupils,’ said Engum. ‘They had almost everything taken care of in their first draft of the business plan, including financial projections. Their package was well developed.’
