Maybe fun never goes out of style. Or so the owner of the aptly named Dr. Feelgood’s Rock Bar & Grill in downtown West Palm Beach would have you believe.
Despite a slump among area restaurants, business is brisk at Clematis Street’s rock hot spot. So much so, in fact, that co-owner Cleve Mash is fielding interest from investors who want to franchise the concept and bring it to Miami-Dade and Broward counties, and maybe Orlando.
“It’s unique,” Mash said of Dr. Feelgood’s, a creation of Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil. “There aren’t a lot of fun bars, and this is a fun bar.”
Mash said the bar business is a bit recession-proof, especially when drink prices are kept low. There’s no cover charge at Dr. Feelgood’s during the week and a $5 or $10 cover on weekends.
“People aren’t going to give up on going out,” Mash said. “It’s the one relief they have.”
Dr. Feelgood’s success has made Mash & Co. feel better about the next ventures they will unveil: the return of Lost Weekend lounge by the end of summer and the introduction of a new dance club upstairs, known as Monarchy, set to open in the fall.
