With a goal of fighting obesity while making exercise fun, Nexgym, a Southlake-Texas based kid’s fitness franchise, has launched into two additional markets: Lisbon, Portugal and San Antonio, Texas.
The first children’s fitness facility to merge state-of-the-art fitness technology with video-games, Nexgym first started franchising in December 2006 with their launch of the second Nexgym facility in Plano Texas. Now, with expansion internationally, Nexgym has opened a Master Franchise program for international franchisors interested in leveraging the US-based concept.
What the media hailed as the latest trend in fitness, ‘Exergaming’, allows children to work out on equipment which has been integrated with Video Games. “We go quite a bit further than just the Nintendo Wii within our facility”, says Kevin Bolden, the President of Nexgym Franchising Corporation. “We were the first to combine a whole range of fun technology into what we call a Digital Playground”. Nexgym then adds programs such as Interactive Classes (Karate, Yoga, Sports Training, Dance), Personal Training, and a program called Confidence Builders which works with children who have special needs such as Autism, Aspergers, or Sensory Disorders.

Not sure if my last post went through, but I have been working int he fitness franchise industry for a long time and people always ask me ‘why is the obesity rate rising in America?’ My answer is always that our kids are learning bad nutrition habits and how not to exercise. That’s why I love to see fitness/gym franchises popping up which are geared toward kids because that’s where it starts. Good luck to the NexGym franchise opportunity! Keep fighting obesity.
