Consumers may not know the name Kahala Corp., but they likely know of at least a few of the franchisor’s brands.
The Scottsdale company’s portfolio includes well-known chains such as Cold Stone Creamery, Cereality Cereal Bar & Cafe and Blimpie, and lesser-known names such as Ranch 1, Surf City Squeeze and Nrgize Lifestyle Cafe.
Adding to those brands continues to be an integral part of Kahala’s growth strategy.
“There are different categories in the food-service sector that we don’t have a real strong presence in,” says Chris Prasifka, president of Kahala Franchise Corp., the company’s franchising division.
In 2005, Kahala owned eight chains. As of May, the company owned 12. The acquisitions helped boost Kahala’s annual sales by 150 percent between 2005 and 2007.
