Caribou Coffee said this afternoon it has named Michael Tattersfield as president and chief executive officer.

Tattersfield succeeds Rosalyn “Roz” Mallet who was appointed interim chief executive of the Brooklyn Center chain in November after Michael Coles resigned.

Caribou Coffee announced in May a first-quarter loss of $6.4 million in a weakening economy and based in part on the closing of 16 stores. Meanwhile, much larger Seattle-based rival Starbucks has been closing hundreds of underperforming stores nationwide.

Tattersfield’s career spans approximately 20 years of finance, operations and general management experience, both domestically and internationally, in the restaurant and specialty retail industries.
