Arizona Republic:

After months of construction and renovation, Dunkin’ Donuts threw open the doors Friday morning at nine locations across the Valley.

The party may have been loudest at Baseline and Stapley roads in Mesa, where cars jammed the parking lot and a line was still out the door three hours after the 4:45 a.m. opening.

“I’m glad they’re here,” said Cynthia Vaughn of Gilbert.

Sugar and caffeine lovers also stood in long lines outside Scottsdale’s two reopened Dunkin’ Donuts stores to get their fill of doughnuts and coffee.

The stores at the northwestern corner of Hayden and Thomas roads and the northeastern corner of Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard had been closed for months for the makeover.

The shutdown and makeover were the first step in the Quincy, Mass.-based company’s plan to launch a major expansion of its doughnuts-and-coffee brand in metro Phoenix. Three franchisee groups plan to open 150 Dunkin’ Donuts in the Valley over the next several years.
