One of the greatest struggles facing working parents is the need to strike the right balance between work and family obligations and Xpresso Delight Bexley franchisee Laila Kennedy has the best of both worlds – running a successful business without sacrificing quality family time.
With a business model based on helping to generate a passive income stream, Kennedy, the mother of Kane, 10 and Liam, 12, works an average of 20 hours per week and turns over in excess of $85,000 per year.
Xpresso Delight works by placing gourmet espresso coffee machines into workplaces, which allows Kennedy to take her kids to school and run errands while her machines are generating income, cup by cup.
“The business provides me with a relatively passive income so I can avoid the long hours of other types of franchises and still earn a fantastic income,” she says. “Doing everything in the business from cleaning parts and servicing the machines to invoicing takes an average of 20 hours per week.
“I’m doing something I really enjoy with the flexibility to manage my time between family and work life, and I’m also supplementing my family’s income. It has created a balance in my life which is something all mothers want.”
Kennedy had no previous business experience and recognised there was a greater chance of achieving success as part of a franchise network than setting out on her own.
