More Non-Food Businesses Resort To Franchising To Expand Market

Sun.Star Cebu:

AMID the present economic difficulties, more traditional types of businesses are venturing into franchising as part of their expansion plans.

RK Franchise Consultancy (RKFC) Inc. reported that since January, around 50 companies in the country have developed a franchising system that would enable them to expand using other people’s money and human resources.

“Franchising makes the lives of owners easier and more convenient. They can also consult us to train their personnel and check locations for them, among others. It’s a win-win situation. Franchising is safer because it’s a proven and profitable strategy,” said RKFC founder Rudolf Kotik in a press conference yesterday at Neo Neo Grill in Mabolo, Cebu City.

Traditional businesses in the non-food segment, he said, include pawnshops, personal care businesses, advertising companies, drugstores and gas stations.

He cited Manila-based V.Y. Domingo Pawnshop and Phoenix Petroleum, the only Mindanao-based Petroleum company that opened 50 franchised gasoline stations in Mindanao and recently held an initial public offering.

A press statement from RKFC also mentioned Golden Haven as the first memorial park franchise and RCC Amazing Touch, the first company that offers wart removal and skin care services using technology developed by Filipinos.

Kotik noted that about two-thirds of the local franchising industry is being dominated by food businesses, especially food cart franchises, due to its mobility and low capital requirement.
