Sylvan Learning Centers will be cropping up in the Middle East.
Mohamed A. Dobashi, an associate professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, purchased rights to open centers in seven areas throughout the Middle East.
Baltimore-based Sylvan Learning Inc., which tutors pre-K through 12th graders, is looking to convert its corporate centers to local franchisees and encouraging the same kind of international expansion.
Dobashi opened centers in Qatar in 2007 and one in Dubai in March. He intends to plant franchises in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Egypt, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
