Planet Fitness Headquarters Honors Franchise In Oneida

Planet Fitness has honored its Oneida franchise for having the highest percentage of women members among all 282 of the company’s gyms in 31 states.

Women account for 66 percent of the members at the Oneida facility, which opened in October at the Glenwood Plaza. The company paid tribute to gym owner Steve Joanis during its annual conference in Las Vegas.

“This is a remarkable statistic, and tells us that the club has succeeded in establishing an atmosphere that’s unintimidating, which is something we strive for,” said Bill Mulleady, the vice president of franchising for the N.H.-based Planet Fitness chain. “If the club had a muscle-head atmosphere, the women wouldn’t remain members for very long.”

Planet Fitness clubs don’t have any salespeople, and don’t bother with extras like juice bars, pools, and child care that drive up costs.
