City Planner Michael Barnes said the restaurant is proposed to go near Lowe’s off Lew Dewitt Boulevard in the city’s West End.

A Golden Corral official said Monday that franchisee ESC Restaurants of Richmond plans to open one of the popular buffet-style eateries in Waynesboro. The official said the company is waiting on building permits to begin construction, but it was not currently on its construction report, which lists proposed franchises that are scheduled to open within 180 days.

The Raleigh, N.C.-based chain, with 21 restaurants in Virginia and almost 500 restaurants in 40 states, is advertising online for managers for new locations not only in Waynesboro, but also for proposed restaurants in Harrisonburg and Richmond.
