From Monday it will offer a new kid’s breakfast meal that includes an egg-and-cheese sandwich, apple slices, calcium-fortified apple juice and a toy for $3.38. The meal contains 410 calories. While McDonald’s breakfast menu doesn’t include a kids meal, its Happy Meals can contain anything from 390 to 700 calories. Breakfast has been a hotly contested market for the food franchises this years, with many brands launching or expanding their morning menus. According to industry research firm Technomic, McDonald’s is leading the market with a $9 billion portion of the $25 billion breakfast section of the fast food market. The company is currently looking to rollout an oatmeal breakfast across the States in January, while Subway recently moved into the market with its made-to-order breakfast sandwiches.
