I can’t believe the summer is almost
over and I haven’t had my annual Pronto Pup. Downing a dog on a stick, slurping a root beer and strolling along the Grand Haven waterfront has been a part of my life for, well, shall we say a lot of years.
If you hang out much in Grand Haven, I’m sure it is part of yours. If not, you are missing a real treat.
Wonder what a Pronto Pup is? Similar to a corn dog, it is a delicious hot dog on a stick, dipped in a wheat-based batter, cooked to a lovely golden crispy brown in vegetable oil and slathered with ketchup and mustard. Hanging out in Grand Haven, consuming Pronto Pups is a big chunk of the memory banks of the local folks like me–baby boomers who grew up in what we called “The Tri-cities.” Grand Haven. Spring Lake.
