With a “24 hours on, 48 hours off” schedule, some firefighters are looking to productively fill those long free days.
For many, the solution is a small business.
Take the new Nick’s Pizzeria and Ice Cream in Overland Park. Recently firefighters with their own painting company were putting the finishing touches on the restaurant owned by Kansas City firefighter Nick Morrow.
Morrow wanted to re-create the family atmosphere of the pizza parlor he grew up with as a child.
“I have an ambitious personality, and I thought I could make this work,” said Morrow, a 15-year veteran. Read full story.
