McDonald’s: All But 88 Japan Stores Now Open

McDonald’s is feeling the aftershocks of Japan’s catastrophic earthquake and tsunami earlier this month, and increased imports to the battered nation to help offset supply-chain disruptions.

Of McDonald’s 3,300 restaurants in Japan, hundreds closed down in the days immediately following the 9.0-magnitute earthquake and ensuing tsunami on March 11, which left nearly 30,000 people dead or missing. All but 88 are now reopened, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

Several of McDonald’s processing plants and a distribution center in Japan were damaged by the tsunami, Simone Hoyle, Vice President of Supply Chain for McDonald’s Asia, Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions, told the newspaper.
