Perkins Restaurant Debuts In Independence Despite Corporate Bankruptcy

A new franchised Perkins Restaurant & Bakery opened Monday in Independence despite a bankruptcy filing by corporate parent Perkins & Marie Callender’s Inc.

Matt Rahfaldt, vice president of operations for CyHawk Hospitality, which owns the new restaurant, said a handful of people asked about the corporate company’s bankruptcy filing on the restaurant’s opening day. But the franchisee is completely separate from Perkins & Marie Callender’s, so CyHawk’s business wasn’t harmed.

“We’re kind of the good news,” Rahfaldt said. “There’s obviously some positive momentum in the Kansas City area.”
